The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) announced on July 16 that Broadcom has upgraded its membership status to Platinum. This move expands Broadcom’s engagement within the CNCF ecosystem, at a time when more enterprises are operationalizing AI, analytics, and other data-heavy workloads on Kubernetes-based platforms.
This announcement follows Broadcom’s recent contribution of Velero to the CNCF Sandbox. Velero is a Kubernetes-native solution dedicated to cluster backup, restore, and cross-environment migration. It enables platform teams to safeguard Kubernetes cluster resources and persistent data, streamline disaster recovery workflows, and migrate applications across clusters and environments. These capabilities have grown increasingly critical for modern AI infrastructure, which requires reproducible deployment states, reliable data protection, and flexible workload portability for daily operations.
Broadcom CNCF Platinum Elevation & Velero Open-Source Contribution
Broadcom maintains deep-rooted cloud-native expertise and open-source heritage: the company originally created Harbor, Antrea, Velero, and Contour, and sustains active contributions to core Kubernetes components including Cluster API, etcd, containerd, Kubernetes CSI, and controller-runtime. CNCF recognizes Broadcom as one of the top three Kubernetes contributors over the past decade.
Its new Platinum membership enables Broadcom to further advance open-source technologies that underpin modern cloud-native platform operations. Its scope extends far beyond basic container deployment, covering platform resilience, security governance, and full lifecycle management for cloud infrastructure.
For IT infrastructure teams, Broadcom’s expanded CNCF participation signals sustained vendor investment in Kubernetes control planes, container runtimes, storage interfaces, and cross-platform application mobility layers. These foundational components are essential for building and operating standardized, unified platforms to run modern applications and AI workloads across private, public, and hybrid cloud environments.
