The DapuStor R6060 is a PCIe Gen5 enterprise QLC SSD powered by the DP800 controller and 3D QLC NAND. Available in U.2, E3.L, and E1.L form factors, its capacity lineup covers 15.36TB, 30.72TB, 61.44TB, 122.88TB, and a top-tier 245TB SKU. Supporting PCIe 5.0 x4 / 2×2 dual-port and NVMe 2.0, the reviewed 122.88TB E3.L 2T model targets dense AI infrastructure and large-scale capacity storage pools. Optimized for read-heavy datasets, it delivers high sequential read bandwidth with limited write throughput, making it unsuitable for small-block transactional workloads.
Specifications
The R6060 family features a 14GB/s max sequential read speed and 4GB/s sequential write speed. Smaller drives (15.36TB/30.72TB) hit 3 million 4KB random read IOPS, while higher-capacity models reach 2.8 million IOPS. The 122.88TB version only delivers 20K random write IOPS (32KB). Enterprise capabilities include NVMe 2.0 FDP for reduced write amplification, OCP 2.5 compliance, end-to-end data protection, secure boot, and dual-port redundancy. Rated at 0.6 DWPD, 2.5-million-hour MTBF, 25W peak power and 5W idle power, the SSD comes with a five-year warranty.
Test Bench & Comparison Drives
Testing was conducted on a Dell PowerEdge R760 server running Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS, equipped with dual Intel Xeon Gold 6430 CPUs and 1TB DDR5 memory. The benchmark pool includes Solidigm P5336, Micron 6550 ION, and DapuStor J5060, covering Gen4/Gen5, QLC/TLC, and diverse form factors to benchmark the R6060 against mainstream high-capacity enterprise SSDs.
FIO Performance Benchmarks
Sequential Workloads
The R6060 achieved 3,920.6MB/s in 128K sequential write (2nd place), with a latency of 509.7µs. For 128K sequential read, it hit 11,554.0MB/s at 692.1µs, ranking second behind the Micron TLC drive and far exceeding Solidigm Gen4 competitors.
64K Random Workloads
Its 64K random write performance remained stable at ~3,915MB/s throughout tests, securing second place. Write latency climbed steadily to 4,087µs under heavy loads, outperforming all drives except Micron. In 64K random read, the R6060 peaked at 13,274.8MB/s, surpassing Micron at maximum concurrency with a terminal latency of 1,285µs.
16K & 4K Random Workloads
The 16K random read topped 817.7K IOPS with controlled latency, while 16K random write was a bottleneck, capped below 52K IOPS with sharply rising high-load latency. For 4K random read, the drive peaked at 2.061M IOPS with low and stable latency under most workloads.
GPU Direct Storage (GDS) Tests
GDS tests simulated GPU bypass CPU data transmission for AI workloads. The R6060 showed mediocre 16K small-block performance but excelled at large blocks. At high thread counts, it led the group with 5.9GiB/s 1M sequential read throughput. In sequential write tests, it dominated 128K workloads with stable IOPS and maintained competitive latency; however, 1M large-block write latency increased notably under heavy concurrency.
DLIO AI Checkpointing Benchmark
Based on the LLAMA 3.1 405B LLM training model with 1,636GB checkpoints on an 8-GPU setup, the DLIO test evaluated AI storage stability. The R6060 started fastest at 465.33s for the first checkpoint but suffered severe performance degradation, slowing to over 930s in subsequent runs and ranking last among tested drives due to sustained write pressure.
Conclusion
Tailored for read-heavy high-capacity storage tiers, the DapuStor R6060 delivers excellent large-block sequential performance, solid GDS compatibility, and stable high-concurrency read speeds. Its obvious weakness lies in small-block random writes and sustained AI checkpointing workloads. Featuring diverse EDSFF form factors and industry-leading maximum capacity, it serves as a cost-effective Gen5 QLC option for data centers. Users are reminded to verify hardware compatibility strictly, as E3.L physical specifications differ from mainstream E3.S and U.2 slots.
