Regatta launches its unified OLTP, OLAP and vector database

Regatta launched general availability of RegattaDB, a distributed SQL unifying OLTP, OLAP and vector workloads with scalable, high-efficient performance.

Fully Postgres-compatible, it scales to tens of thousands of nodes as AI agent infrastructure. Its unified distributed concurrency model delivers cross-node serializable consistency across all three workloads, removing external pipelines and extra sync layers. AI agents via MCP access one unified data store, gaining faster consistent data access to cut hallucinations, missing data and latency while simplifying client data pipelines.

CEO Boaz Palgi stated the firm did not anticipate AI agents would dominate computing, yet legacy data architectures remain bottlenecks worsened by agent workloads. Rebuilt ground-up as a storage and distributed systems solution, RegattaDB’s unique architecture natively unifies transactional, real-time analytical and vector search for modern AI scale, speed and efficiency.

Its core patented concurrency protocol runs diverse workloads cross-cluster without performance or consistency tradeoffs. Regatta states it delivers 20x per-node performance versus competing distributed SQLs. On 50 generic cloud nodes, it completed a distributed JOIN over 20 billion rows while sustaining 50,000 ACID transactions per second within three minutes, with no index or data co-location tweaks; traditional warehouse streaming workflows would take hours for equivalent queries.

Compared to legacy single-node databases, its architecture supports 400% denser server workloads and cuts average hardware, power, cooling and space costs by 75%. Architecture and concurrency protocol details are available via linked resources.

Greg Lavender, ex-Intel EVP & CTO and Nutanix/Arista board member, joined Regatta Data’s board to guide its growth phase.

Unified multi-model databases combining transaction, analytics and vector search gain traction, including Databricks, SingleStore and SurrealDB. Databricks LTAP maintains separate data copies for OLTP and OLAP. Palgi noted LTAP merely shares storage while running two independent engines (Postgres for transactions, Spark for analytics), lacking unified concurrency, execution and operational layers; his blog elaborates on this distinction.

Rivals include Azure Cosmos DB, CockroachDB, Google AlloyDB, TiDB and YugabyteDB. While their implementations differ, multi-model database scale and throughput remain the decisive metrics; RegattaDB performance benchmarks are published at two linked pages.
