Nutanix is acquiring French software developer Ryax and its platform for building, running and governing agentic‑AI workloads.
The acquisition advances Nutanix’s strategy to let customers operate agentic AI across any location: hyperscaler and neo‑public clouds, on‑prem private clouds, edge hardware and HPC environments. Nutanix will merge Ryax’s GPU‑utilization and intelligent scheduling functions into its Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) and Nutanix Enterprise AI (NAI).

Many organisations struggle moving AI work from prototypes to production due to heavy infrastructure integration and manual configuration. Ryax automates these infrastructure layers, enabling a unified hybrid‑cloud operating model for Nutanix customers.
Founded in Lyon, France in 2017 by CEO Andry Razafinjatovo and CTO Yiannis Georgiou, Ryax builds container‑native, AI‑driven workflow‑orchestration software. Developers define workflows as sequences of container‑based actions and triggers. Ryax handles application packaging, deployment, scheduling, scaling and monitoring. Its workloads run atop Kubernetes and can target Slurm HPC clusters; code does not need rewriting to execute across public clouds, private sites, edge or HPC.
Customers can automate the underlying infrastructure, data, hardware and code for AI‑agent workflows, speeding‑up AI rollouts with improved cost‑efficiency and reliability.
Ryax’s core engine is written primarily in Python with gRPC and SQLAlchemy, deployed via Helm for Kubernetes. Its open‑source engine is available on GitHub; users may self‑host or consume the managed hosted service, which is also listed on AWS Marketplace. Key capabilities include serverless CPU/GPU execution, GPU fractioning plus bin‑packing to lift utilization, automatic environment packaging, and cost‑aware scheduling delivering up to 45% compute‑cost reduction and running 10‑30% cheaper than mainstream cloud pricing. Later releases add multi‑site execution and air‑gapped operation support.

Nutanix targets two key architectural capabilities for its user base: Intelligent Resource Optimization to maximise GPU and CPU efficiency and cut waste; and AI‑Aware Smart Scheduling that automatically places AI workloads onto cost‑effective hardware balancing performance and budget. Ryax functionality will ship within future NKP and NAI versions, and the Ryax team will join Nutanix in France.
Major public‑cloud providers and IBM Watson X automate agentic‑AI infrastructure within their own boundaries. This purchase gives Nutanix cross‑platform capabilities, creating a direct competitor to IBM’s offering. Broadcom‑owned VMware currently lacks comparable tooling in this segment.
Financially, the deal has no material impact on Nutanix. Ryax raised a €1.34 million seed round in October 2019, plus a smaller VC round estimated near €400 k alongside multiple public grants. Total financing sits in the €2.2‑2.4 million range. Nutanix reported $757.1 million quarterly revenue and $277.6 million free cash flow for its period ending July 31, giving ample room to acquire this small French software firm even at a 2‑4x valuation markup.
