Nutanix announced general availability of Nutanix Enterprise AI (NAI) 2.8, alongside the upcoming launch of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) 2.19.

Its core Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) is enhanced for production‑grade agentic AI via its dual‑native side‑by‑side VM‑and‑container architecture. NAI 2.8 delivers centralized control for AI inference and agentic AI, including the Nutanix Agent Gateway with a Model Context Protocol (MCP) gateway to govern agent‑to‑application‑and‑data connections. Nutanix Private Inference brings improved high‑performance fine‑tuning, inference, security and governance. NKP 2.19 will streamline container management for bare‑metal and virtualised setups, with a built‑in AI catalog for building and running agentic‑AI workloads.

Nutanix EVP of Product Management Thomas Cornely stated enterprises need not rebuild existing business systems for Enterprise AI. Its dual‑native architecture lets users run AI alongside existing apps and data, placing each workload on optimal infrastructure, with unified operations and governance across VMs, containers and AI. This delivers a practical production‑ready path without new silos or locked‑in choices.

Nutanix has rolled out agentic‑AI capabilities over recent months to smooth customer adoption. It released an open‑source MCP server for its cloud platform earlier this month. The Agent Gateway launched in July as a control plane for agent activity, access policies and token consumption. Back in March, Nutanix unveiled its Agentic AI offering at Nvidia GTC, integrating with Nvidia AI Enterprise at the Agent Builder layer to build, operate and secure agentic‑AI applications; today’s updates add further functional building blocks.

Many enterprises hit deployment hurdles as AI drives container adoption while legacy apps and data reside across virtualized and containerised environments. This often creates infrastructure silos, requires data migration or workload re‑architecture — challenges Nutanix claims its platform avoids.

NAI and NKP provide a unified control plane to securely operate, manage and govern AI, container and VM workloads. New advanced inference and tuning capabilities include:
‑ Parameter‑Efficient Fine‑Tuning supporting LoRA for sub‑8B‑parameter models, enabling cost‑effective open‑LLM customisation on private data using single‑GPU resources, with direct adapter deployment into serving pipelines;
‑ Scalable multi‑GPU serving leveraging tensor parallelism for high‑throughput distributed inference across hybrid‑cloud deployments;
‑ Speculative decoding accelerating LLM token generation up to 2.5× via lightweight draft models to lower latency without accuracy loss.

NAI APIs implement granular IAM, custom roles and model sharing to enforce least‑privilege security for AI agents, plus support for air‑gapped Nvidia NIM microservices.

Upcoming NKP features deliver an AI‑optimised scalable platform for agentic applications:
‑ NKP Metal: brings HCI‑style simplicity to bare‑metal Kubernetes with automated OS, firmware and container deployment plus native enterprise persistent storage;
‑ NKP Full Stack: NKP on AHV paired with Nutanix Flow delivers enhanced network sandboxing for AI agents to mitigate rogue‑agent attacks and lateral movement risks;
‑ AI Applications Catalog: one‑click deployment for validated AI/ML stacks including Kubeflow, Milvus and Slurm to reduce manual integration work;
‑ Hardware & Compliance: expanded validated GPU ecosystem integration and dynamic resource allocation for AI workloads.

The new “Powered by Nutanix: Verified Services” partner programme helps vendors build validated high‑margin services covering VM‑to‑container transitions and AI deployments. Already‑available SP Central offers flexible multi‑tenant cloud foundations for service providers to scale infrastructure, platform, cloud‑native and AI services.

NAI 2.8 and SP Central are now generally available; NKP 2.19 is forthcoming.
