Instinctive and EPYC; VAST Data sets up widespread AMD CPU/GPU collaboration
VAST Data inked a partnership with AMD to adapt its AI OS for AMD EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs, roll out EPYC-powered reference hardware, and jointly build large-scale, high-performance AMD-native AI factories.
VAST already maintains deep, full-spectrum ties with Nvidia—the dominant GPU vendor in AI—alongside Nvidia Neocloud and enterprise clients. Now it broadens its AI ecosystem to fully onboard AMD, Nvidia’s primary GPU rival, alongside internal hyperscaler custom accelerators. VAST and AMD stated the expanded alliance delivers open, flexible AI infrastructure, integrating accelerated compute, intelligent data services and tuned inference software into a unified platform for AI cloud and corporate AI deployments.

-AMD Pensando Pollara 400 AI NIC creates high-speed data pathways linking Instinct GPUs to VAST AI OS. Supporting NFS over TCP and RDMA, it seamlessly shuttles data between GPU memory and VAST’s NVMe SSD storage clusters, powering KV cache and storage access critical to large-scale inference and agentic AI.
-Verified deployments across leading AI cloud providers offering AMD-based AI services globally, including 5C, Core42, Crusoe, EmbeddedLLM, Phanos.AI, TensorWave and Vultr.
Early VAST tests using AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs hit a 9X speedup in time-to-first-token (TTFT) and 9.7X higher token throughput for high-concurrency agentic AI workloads when offloading KV cache to VAST storage. Tests compared cache offloading to local host RAM versus remote VAST partitions via NFS/RDMA.
Performance gains correlate to baseline hardware; workloads running on lower-compute GPU baselines will see even larger relative speedups versus direct storage reads.
VAST will demo the joint architecture, reference blueprints and inference optimization tech at AMD Advancing AI 2026 in San Francisco, held July 22–23.
