VROC Returns to Active Development Under Graid Technology, Backed by Lenovo and Supermicro

June 12, 2026
Graid Technology has officially launched VROC by Graid Technology, a rebranded and continuously upgraded iteration of legacy Intel VROC. The solution maintains full compatibility with all existing user deployments, while bringing expanded platform compatibility, adjusted licensing mechanisms and brand-new functional upgrades. Graid unveiled this updated RAID solution during Computex Taipei 2026.

VROC by Graid Technology

This upgraded solution inherits the core positioning of original Intel VROC, a CPU-powered software NVMe RAID tool tailored for Intel enterprise servers. More importantly, Graid has shifted the product from passive long-term maintenance to proactive iterative development, releasing a clear 24-month roadmap covering new platform adaptation, feature expansions and customized updates for mainstream OEM manufacturers.

Sustained Active Iteration for Mature Enterprise RAID Solution

The official roadmap prioritizes full compatibility with Intel Xeon 6 server platforms, including Oak Stream paired with Diamond Rapids processors. Graid has clarified three initial supported Xeon 6 D and W platforms: Birch Stream, Granite Rapids WS and Kaseyville. For existing Intel VROC users running eligible Xeon 6 server systems, migrating to VROC by Graid Technology requires no extra licensing fees or upgrade costs.

Built on Intel VMD technology and UEFI firmware, VROC by Graid Technology remains a CPU-based software RAID platform. It natively supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 modes, with ESXi-compatible RAID 1 and RAID 5 functions already scheduled for future updates. Compatible operating systems cover Windows, Linux and VMware ESXi. The solution is designed for four major application scenarios: bootable NVMe RAID deployment on Intel Xeon enterprise servers, Tier 1 branded server systems, workstations and terminals adopting native Intel RAID, as well as hybrid operating environments running both VROC and SupremeRAID concurrently.

Updated Licensing Rules and Cross-Solution Compatibility with SupremeRAID

For newly built server deployments, the platform will adopt UEFI-based licensing, removing traditional physical hardware keys to simplify deployment procedures. Meanwhile, the legacy hardware key licensing mode will still be fully supported on Xeon 6 hardware for all existing in-service projects.

Graid also adds native coexistence compatibility between VROC and its self-developed SupremeRAID. Users can run CPU-based VROC RAID and GPU-accelerated SupremeRAID on one single Intel Xeon server. In this hybrid architecture, VROC undertakes boot disk and system volume tasks, while SupremeRAID handles high-performance hot data storage that demands extreme read/write speed.

The follow-up roadmap also includes a batch of cutting-edge features: GPUDirect Storage support, OpenBMC adaptation, PLDM5 firmware update via out-of-band management, SED hard disk hot plug function, NVMe mechanical hard disk compatibility and full PCIe Gen 6 protocol support.

OEM Ecosystem Support and Official Release Schedule

Two top-tier global server OEM partners, Lenovo and Supermicro, have recognized Graid’s independent operation of the VROC platform and participated in formulating the official upgrade roadmap.

Basic migration support for original Intel VROC products is available right now. Official branded VROC by Graid Technology firmware and feature upgrades will be rolled out globally via OEM vendors and channel partners starting from Q3 2026.
