Synology Rolls Out Full Product Updates & New APM Platform at COMPUTEX 2026
Synology launched comprehensive upgrades covering storage, data protection, collaboration, surveillance and private cloud solutions at COMPUTEX 2026. All new releases focus on built-in AI functions, unified hybrid cloud management and upgraded data governance tools for enterprise and home users, alongside the official launch of ActiveProtect Manager 2.0.
Synology highlighted its core development tenets including full data ownership, security and privacy at the show. Its upgraded platforms help users retain full data control while adopting AI tools, and the vendor is steadily expanding its enterprise market presence via unified product strategies across all business lines.
ActiveProtect Manager Version Iterations: 1.2 Upgrade & 2.0 Official Release
Synology rolled out ActiveProtect Manager (APM) 1.2 for its dedicated data protection appliances, optimizing centralized management scale, cross-platform compatibility and backup workflows to fit modern enterprise data protection demands.
The biggest upgrade of APM 1.2 is doubled centralized management capacity. DP7400 and DP7200 appliances now support managing up to 300,000 workloads via one single console. Besides, DP320 and DP340 appliances are newly compatible as management nodes, bringing more flexible deployment choices for enterprises and MSPs to monitor distributed backup systems without high-end management hardware.
More APM 1.2 Enhancements: Compatibility & Backup Workflow Optimization
APM 1.2 expands OS, virtualization and database compatibility, adding official support for macOS 26, mainstream Linux distributions and Microsoft Hyper-V on Windows Server 2025. It also strengthens critical database backup protection to adapt to hybrid and mixed IT infrastructure.
This update optimizes backup workflows compliant with the industry-standard 3-2-1-1-0 data protection rule, supporting retroactive copy activation and flexible retention policies to meet compliance demands. Meanwhile, real-time backup progress monitoring is added, helping admins detect replication and retention anomalies in advance.
APM 2.0 Released: Full Hybrid Cyber Resilience Upgrade
Different from minor iterative updates, APM 2.0 is a comprehensive platform upgrade, turning ActiveProtect into a unified cyber resilience solution for hybrid infrastructure. It adds backup protection for AWS EC2, Azure VM, Proxmox, Nutanix AHV and Google Workspace, equipped with cross-platform recovery and native AI anomaly & malware detection. Synology also launched the matching DP5200 hardware appliance, continuing its hardware-software integrated product roadmap.
Breaking past appliance-local backup limitations, APM 2.0 unifies protection for on-prem infrastructure, virtual machines, public cloud workloads and SaaS data. It marks Synology’s key shift from standalone backup hardware to a centralized hybrid recovery management platform.
Market Competition Positioning
Rival vendors including Veeam, Rubrik and Cohesity have long positioned backup platforms as holistic cyber resilience solutions. Synology is now following this industry trend. Differentiated from competitors, Synology sticks to vertical integration, simple operation and cost-effective all-in-one appliances, targeting mid-market and distributed enterprises. In contrast, Veeam owns wider channel coverage and software ecosystem advantages, while Rubrik and Cohesity lead in large-scale enterprise-level security and policy management capabilities.
The core highlight of APM 2.0 lies in integrated hybrid workload backup and cross-platform recovery, rather than simple workload expansion. It fits distributed enterprises with mixed IT environments that pursue unified backup platforms without complex deployment. Built-in AI threat detection has become mainstream industry configuration, yet Synology has not released detailed technical parameters and real-scene recovery performance data for this function.
Overall, APM 2.0 greatly enhances Synology’s competitiveness in mid-market and distributed enterprise scenarios. But its large enterprise market breakthrough still depends on follow-up performance in large-scale policy management, data immutability and cross-platform recovery stability.
Next-Gen DSM Optimized for Enterprise AI Workloads
Synology previewed the new-generation DSM system tailored for enterprise AI deployment. It supports GPU-accelerated NAS and dedicated AI appliances, enabling secure on-prem AI inference while retaining full local data governance. The newly launched DSM Agent automates cross-platform intelligent workflows.
Additional enterprise features include unified multi-device management via Cluster Manager, cross-system workload migration and centralized protection policies. Active Insight supports batch mass deployment for branch sites, while upgraded Log Center strengthens auditing and observability for compliance requirements.
Full Product Portfolio Updates
Surveillance solutions: Synology rolled out new access control hardware, AI-powered cameras and upgraded DVA video analytics appliances supporting intelligent footage retrieval and target tracking. Its VSaaS platform Surveillance365 enables unified remote monitoring for multi-site environments.
Office collaboration tools: New ChatPlus and Meet applications enrich enterprise communication functions, with built-in AI transcription and translation, keeping all data processed locally for higher security.
Consumer private cloud: The upgraded BeeStation private cloud series launches new home monitoring and local AI deep search functions, protecting user data privacy via full local operation.
Product Availability
APM 1.2 is available for free update now. APM 2.0 and DP5200 appliance are only showcased at COMPUTEX 2026 and not yet officially released, with general availability to be announced later.
