IBM updated its Power server lineup with new automation software for infrastructure management and app development, including Power Autonomous Operations—an agentic system control layer—and IBM Bob Premium Package for i, an AI coding assistant for IBM i workloads. It also unveiled the Power S1112, a compact single-socket Power11 server built for on-premises AI inference.
These offerings extend last year’s Power11 portfolio, which centered on high availability, resilience and scalable on-premises & IBM Cloud deployment. The new tools expand autonomous IT capabilities across the full stack, from application source code to runtime operations.
IBM referenced its 2026 Institute for Business Value Tech Leader Study, forecasting enterprises will run an average of 1,661 AI agents by 2027, marking a 38% year-over-year jump. This surge will force IT teams to oversee hundreds of thousands of autonomous daily judgments that manual governance cannot cover. IBM built these releases to bridge that gap via self-managing infrastructure, freeing staff from repetitive operational work to focus on application delivery.
Hillery Hunter, IBM Power General Manager and IBM Infrastructure CTO, stated the suite enables rapid AI rollout without compromising system stability. Enhanced Power automation handles regular availability, performance tuning and security tasks while retaining full operational oversight and fault tolerance.
Power S1112: Compact Edge & On-Prem AI Inference Server
The single-socket Power11 S1112 targets firms deploying AI inference at edge sites and remote on-prem locations beyond core data centers. Its on-chip Matrix Math Acceleration (MMA) cuts local inference latency.
Per IBM’s CPW benchmark data for 4-core configurations, the S1112 delivers double the per-core throughput of Power S914 and triple that of legacy Power S814. It also achieves up to 69% higher power efficiency in a smaller footprint: a 10-core S1112 hits 539 CPW per watt versus 319 for an 8-core S914.

Power Autonomous Operations: Automated Infrastructure Orchestration
This new control plane automates daily Power environment administration, continuously monitoring system status to detect and resolve bottlenecks like capacity shortages before outages occur.
Internal testing across an 11-server Power cluster cut capacity issue resolution time to 3.33 minutes, versus 52.59 minutes under manual workflows—a roughly 15x speedup, eliminating dozens of hours of manual dashboard review monthly. Its embedded AI agent supports conversational natural-language control for system tuning, lowering the barrier for teams without deep Power expertise to complete routine tasks.
IBM Bob Premium Package for i: AI-Powered IBM i Development Assistant
IBM i remains core to enterprise business workflows, yet its modernization historically demands rare RPG expertise, limiting developer talent pools. IBM Bob acts as an agentic AI development assistant to help engineers parse legacy code, implement updates and get up to speed faster on IBM i projects. Early adopter Heartland Co-Op reported new platform developers grasp complex IBM i applications 60% quicker with Bob. The premium tier embeds native IBM i standard compliance into development lifecycles to expand the workforce capable of updating IBM i software.
