HPE Expands ProLiant Portfolio for Rugged Edge and AI Workloads

May 11, 2026
HPE has broadened its ProLiant edge compute product portfolio, rolling out new hardware optimized for AI inference workloads and mission-critical applications within remote or harsh operational settings. The updated lineup features the brand-new HPE ProLiant Compute EL2000 chassis — the hardware foundation for two Gen12 server models — alongside an upgraded iteration of the HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11. These platforms are tailored for national security, manufacturing and telecommunications sectors, scenarios where conventional data center infrastructure cannot be deployed.

A notable upgrade across the range is the newly launched Environmental Ruggedization Option Kit. This modular hardware enhancement enables stable system operation at extreme altitudes, drastic temperature ranges and hazardous transportation conditions. The refreshed portfolio prioritizes enterprise-level security and intelligent automation, allowing businesses to scale edge infrastructure in isolated locations while minimizing on-site manpower requirements.

Next-Generation Rugged Performance with the EL2000

The HPE ProLiant Compute EL2000 chassis is engineered specifically for environments constrained by strict size, weight and power (SWaP) limitations. It supports a dual-server configuration with two HPE ProLiant Compute EL220 Gen12 units, or a single standalone EL240 Gen12 server. Powered by Intel Xeon 6 processors, these Gen12 servers deliver flexible core scalability ranging from 8 up to 144 cores, accommodating high-performance CPUs with a maximum 350-watt thermal design power.

Built for industrial-grade durability, the EL2000 series maintains consistent reliability under temperatures between -40°C and 55°C, with humidity tolerance reaching up to 95%. Its robust construction provides resistance against intense vibration, airborne pollutants and electromagnetic interference. For computationally intensive AI workloads, the EL240 Gen12 is compatible with NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 and Blackwell Server Edition RTX PRO 6000 GPUs. The platform also supports NVIDIA AI Enterprise software stack, catering to high-security environments with stringent compliance requirements.

Enhanced DL145 Gen11 and Telco Optimization

HPE has also unveiled an optimized revision of the ProLiant DL145 Gen11 server. This 2U rack-mounted system adopts energy-efficient AMD EPYC 8005 series processors, delivering up to 84 physical cores. Tuned for distributed telecom infrastructure and low-noise industrial or retail deployment scenarios, the hardware can sustain stable operation at ambient temperatures as high as 55°C.

The upgraded DL145 Gen11 has obtained verified edge AI inference performance in official MLPerf Inference benchmark tests. Furthermore, HPE provides a customized ProLiant DL145 Gen11 Premier Solution built for Azure Local. This dedicated configuration is engineered for edge nodes running Azure cloud services, and it supports Azure Local Disconnected Operations to guarantee business continuity for remote sites with unstable or intermittent network connectivity.

HPE’s expanded edge server range satisfies stringent environmental and security certifications built for high-risk working scenarios. The hardware complies with U.S. national security resilience benchmarks, ensuring survivability amid extreme temperature swings, altitude variation, physical impact and continuous vibration. Moreover, these servers follow electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection guidelines and telecom industry norms. They can support 5G core networks and radio access network (RAN) infrastructure, targeting an industry-leading 99.999% operational uptime.

Administrative workflows are simplified via Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) and HPE Compute Ops Management. The dual-tool framework delivers centralized governance and real-time monitoring for distributed edge facilities spread across different regions. By automating compliance validation and equipment deployment procedures, HPE closes the operational gap between traditional data center management and remotely deployed edge hardware with harsh physical exposure.

Krista Satterthwaite, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Compute at HPE, pointed out that more enterprises are shifting AI inference workloads and remote operational tasks to edge locations, where conventional IT architectures commonly expose functional limitations. She stressed that the ProLiant edge portfolio is engineered with enterprise-level security mechanisms, fine-tuned performance and native automated management features. These inherent strengths streamline edge deployment, daily administration and elastic scaling, helping enterprises mitigate edge computing complexities with rugged and high-performance server hardware.

Availability

The upgraded HPE ProLiant DL145 Gen11 and the Environmental Ruggedization Option Kit have achieved immediate commercial availability. The customized DL145 Gen11 Premier Solution built for Azure Local is set to launch in May 2026. Meanwhile, the EL2000 chassis and its compatible Gen12 servers are arranged for official release in the latter half of 2026.
