Axelera AI has unveiled Voyager Wingman, an AI-driven assistant built to streamline development workflows for its Voyager Toolkit. First previewed at CES last January, the tool has completed comprehensive beta testing ahead of its official wide release. Wingman enables developers to leverage natural language to query the Voyager SDK and full Axelera documentation repository, empowering them to build AI pipelines, resolve bugs and troubleshoot application issues without manually browsing technical documents. Internal testing by Axelera shows Wingman delivers 20–30% better outcomes compared to standalone Claude Code usage.
Developing AI applications for dedicated hardware involves substantial auxiliary workloads beyond core model building, including model export and compilation, pipeline configuration, performance tuning, and output validation. Wingman is designed to streamline these repetitive workflows, with native access to Axelera’s SDK, official documentation and complete software codebase, eliminating the need for developers to manually consolidate scattered technical resources. As a European AI semiconductor firm behind the Metis and Europa edge inference platforms, Axelera now serves over 500 customers across telecommunications, aerospace and enterprise industries with its hardware solutions.
Core Functionality
Wingman focuses on four time-consuming pain points that dominate developers’ daily work. First is rapid pipeline construction: developers can describe target application requirements, including designated models, pre-processing and post-processing steps, and multi-stage pipeline logic, and Wingman will automatically assemble functional computer vision pipelines based on the natural language description.
Second is intelligent performance tuning. The assistant can recommend targeted optimization strategies and compiler parameter configurations to maximize throughput on Axelera’s edge hardware, freeing developers from manually sorting and testing various compiler options.
Third is efficient fault troubleshooting. Wingman is trained to identify common failure patterns such as configuration errors, device enumeration anomalies and model compilation failures, and provides actionable fixes instead of merely displaying error prompts.
Fourth is convenient document querying. Developers can raise targeted questions about supported operators, API specifications, runtime behaviors and configuration syntax, and obtain contextual answers with practical code examples, avoiding tedious manual document retrieval.
Access and Deployment
Voyager Wingman is currently available via a web chat interface and independent desktop application. The company plans to launch plugins and compatible skills for mainstream AI coding frameworks in future updates. All access endpoints support automatic synchronization with the latest Toolkit upgrades, new sample projects and documentation iterations, requiring no local downloads or manual updates from developers.
The web-based chat tool supports cross-platform access through a single link, lowering team entry barriers by eliminating local installation requirements. The upcoming plugin integration will seamlessly fit into existing development workflows, requiring no environment adjustments and preventing external leakage of local source code.
Availability
Developers can access Voyager Wingman through the Axelera Developer Community and Customer Portal. The web chat version adopts a freemium model, offering free usage credits for developers to test core features before subscribing to paid services. The standalone desktop app is completely free to use with a bring-your-own-key mode, allowing users to connect with their own underlying model API credentials.
Bram Verhoef, Vice President of Customer Engineering and Success at Axelera, stated that the platform aims to lower the threshold for edge AI development on Axelera hardware, making it accessible to developers of all skill levels, rather than only experienced professionals proficient with the Voyager Toolkit.
